Genetics + Nutrition = Quality = VALUE
Good nutrition is a must to make the grade
In their new retail beef strategy Wal-Mart has shifted its beef program from primarily select grade to an upper 2/3 choice grade. The product needed to meet the Wal-Mart premium beef strategy is estimated at 500 to 800 millions pounds.
What does that mean for cattle producers who meet the quality specification? Higher prices! The choice-select spread will be in the $15-$17 range as demand for quality increases.
Six months ago the most profitable steers were Zilmax-fed Mexican cattle. Today, feeders can’t get a bid on beta-agonist fed cattle. Packers do not want select cattle.
Without the nutrition component, good genetics can’t reach their full potential. To learn more about how nutrition can add value to your operation, contact your VitaFerm dealer or Area Sales Manager. Click here to find one near you. |
